GDC Caring Scholarship Winner

GDC Caring, the philanthropic arm of GDC Marketing & Ideation, has awarded its fourth college scholarship to Charles August Lambrecht as the 2023 recipient of the Glenn Espino Scholarship. The Glenn Espino Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors who are planning to attend college and who are the children or grandchildren of current or former GDC Marketing & Ideation employees. Charles August Lambrecht (who goes by August) was a GDC daycare child. His Mother, Burgin Streetman, worked for GDC Marketing & Ideation from 2003 to 2008.

This scholarship was established to honor the legacy of Glenn Espino, the husband of long-time GDC employee Lannette Espino. Glenn, who passed away in 2019, was a passionate advocate of education and the son of two educators. Through this effort August has been awarded $5,000 toward his college education.

August’s 3.8 grade point average demonstrates his academic achievement. Still, his work outside of school makes him stand out. Since he was a child going to the San Antonio Zoo and working with his grandmother, who was certified in wildlife rehabilitation, August had maintained a passion for animals. This passion has resulted in a part-time job with the San Antonio Zoo and involvement in various summer programs assisting wildlife rehabilitation worldwide. His efforts have included working with tortoises in the Galapagos Islands and assisting wildlife conservationists in the Australian outback.

In 2020, when the COVID pandemic shut down the San Antonio Zoo, August used his birthday to initiate an online fundraising campaign to help the zoo. The campaign raised $6,000, and the CEO recognized August at the annual fundraising gala. In addition to his extraordinary work with animals and the San Antonio Zoo, August is bilingual in Spanish and has been active in his school’s theater program. He hopes to carry on his grandmother’s legacy as a wildlife conservationist and plans to attend Eckerd College in Florida to further this goal.

We are honored to have August as the fourth beneficiary of the Glenn Espino Scholarship and cannot wait to see him thrive on his new journey.
