Meet The GDC Interns!
Every semester, GDC opens its doors to a new crop of interns – fresh and sparkling new, not at all jaded by the harsh realities of the professional advertising world. This summer, our talented interns come from schools all across the country, with interests just as varied. Let us introduce you to the folks who are helping us take care of business behind the scenes.
We asked Kasey Terry, Research & PR Intern and a recent Communications Grad from Texas A&M, where she sees herself in five years:
I’m not really sure, to be completely honest. Right now I plan on trying out a lot of different career fields to find out what I’m truly interested in and passionate about, so I’m not really sure where I’ll wind up. But hopefully by then I will be established in a career I’m passionate about, and will have established a community of close friends.
Kasey seems like a do-gooder, and since the job market is still looking pretty grim, we asked her “What’s your backup plan?"
Applying for a position with the Peace Corps or AmeriCorps. It’s a two year contract with some good benefits, and it offers an invaluable experience, despite the little pay you receive. Maybe that, or working in a coffee shop to make ends meet
Our Creative Intern Elizabeth Miller attends SCAD in Savannah, Georgia. We asked her "What’s your intended career path (PR, creative, social media, etc.) and why?"
I am interested in pursuing a career as a creative. Before attending college, I was split between majoring in art and business. Luckily I did not have to choose, as creative work is the perfect combination.
Elizabeth has a fun artistic vibe about her, so we thought for sure she would have some interesting stories about her college experiences. She shared her most awesome college moment:
SCAD recently opened a campus in Hong Kong, and I was part of the first batch of students to attend. Everything about the experience was amazing, except for the food. Authentic Chinese food is nothing like what you would expect. Avoid the meat.
Speaking of food, we asked Caroline Timmons, Account Services Intern and Junior at the University of Texas at Austin, about her favorite budget-friendly college meal…
Chick-fil-a 6-piece kids meal and an extra large fry. Comes out to less than $6.
We see big things for Caroline, and doubt she’ll be eating Chick-fil-a for long. When asked about her career goals she shared this with us:
I’d love to work for the marketing department of a clothing label and work on advertising, branding, buying, etc., plus get the company discount. I plan on getting my MBA eventually, but not until I have some experience.
Caroline isn’t the only one with a passion for fashion. Our Digital & PR intern, Alyssa Berry (also a Junior at UT), has her sights set on the clothing world. She told us about her glambitions.
In five years I see myself iving in downtown NYC working for a big retail corporation or fashion mag. Anna Wintour doesn’t stand a chance…
We asked all our interns why they would want to work without pay. Alyssa was our intern last summer as well, so she might be a masochist.
I interned here last summer, and it was awesome! UT requires an internship, so now I’m just after credit.
